Teresa Koch, professor of librarianship and Collections Development Librarian at Cowles Library, presented at the 33rd annual Charleston Conference in Charleston, South Carolina. Her presentation was titled, “Good Things Come in Small Packages: Getting the Most from Shared Print Retention and Cooperative Collection Development with a Small Group of Libraries.”
Joined by the college librarians from Simpson College and Grandview University, Koch’s presentation focused on the Central Iowa Collaborative Collections Initiative, a highly innovative program in which five academic libraries collaborate to create a shared collection of works to reduce duplicates and create more space in each library for more pressing local and institutional needs.
Since 1980, the Charleston Conference has been an annual gathering of librarians, publishers, electronic resource managers, consultants, and vendors of library materials to discuss issues of importance in a non-threatening, friendly, and highly informal environment.
