Drake University’s Board of Trustees appointed two new board members this spring, Jim Wallace, BN’77 and Susan Glazer Burt.
James “Jim” Wallace, BN’77
Wallace serves as chairman, president, and CEO of GuideOne Insurance, one of the nation’s largest church insurers. The company has been a generous supporter of Drake University and the Actuarial Science department. In 2012, Wallace was awarded the Drake University College of Business & Public Administration (CBPA) Community Leadership Award, and currently serves on CBPA’s national advisory council. Jim’s father, Jack D. Wallace, ED’61, served as Drake University’s head football coach from 1965-1976. Wallace recently completed his term as the chair of the 2013 board of directors for the Greater Des Moines Partnership.
Susan “Suzie” J. Glazer Burt
Burt is a longtime supporter of Drake Athletics, having hosted numerous Drake Athletics events at her homes in Des Moines and La Quinta, Calif. Suzie and her husband, Greg Burt, have provided a $1 million gift to the Drake University Basketball Practice Facility. She is the daughter of Maddie Levitt, longtime Drake University supporter and advocate, and has carried on her mother’s passion for the University. Additionally, she has been involved with many charities, nonprofits, and other organizations in Des Moines, including The Greater Des Moines Community Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club of Central Iowa.
The Drake University Board of Trustees is currently composed of 38 members who are elected by the board by majority vote. Throughout its more than 125-year history, the board has consisted of dedicated and distinguished trustees who have been strong advocates of excellence in academic programs, faculty roles, and public service. Trustees serve three-year terms with no limit on the number of terms served. The group meets four times per year.
