Lisa Gardner, professor of statistics, and Toby White, assistant professor of finance and actuarial science, earned first place in the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) writing competition for their essay, “Managing Investment, Underwriting, and Production Risks from Drought-Related Agricultural Exposures.” Seven essays were submitted for the competition.
Their piece was written in response to a call for essays on the subject of “Climate Change: Impact on the Insurance Industry.” Gardner and White focused on the risks of drought-related agricultural exposures.
As a result of winning the competition, Gardner and White were given a $700 endowment award, and their essay will appear in the CAS E-Forum winter 2014 issue.
