Drake University is a proud presenting sponsor of “Up With People,” a non-profit international traveling group that will visit Des Moines for a performance on Saturday, March 1.
“Up With People” travels across the globe, delivering a message of hope and goodwill that encourages communities to seek global education and personal growth opportunities through service, music, and travel. The group was founded in 1965 and has traveled to nearly 50 countries, impacting more than 22 million people.
Leading Drake’s partnership with “Up With People,” is Drake’s community engagement and service-learning program. Part of the proceeds collected from the March 1 performance will benefit the Drake University Community Engagement and Service-Learning Fund.
“Drake University has a deep commitment to service-learning and community service. Eighty-percent of our students have a service or service-learning experience by the time they graduate and seventy percent of our faculty and staff are engaged in the community by serving on boards, actively volunteering, and supporting professional associations,” says Mandi McReynolds, director of the community engagement and service-learning program. “Our mission is to cultivate students who are ‘engaged citizens with meaningful personal and professional lives,’ and exposing our students to programs like ‘Up with People’ allows our students to explore opportunities for post-graduate global service.”
The “Up With People” performances will take place at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Hoyt Sherman Place, 1501 Woodland Ave., Des Moines. Tickets are $20 for adults, and $15 for seniors, students, and children. A family four-pack is available for $65 and a patron for $50. To purchase tickets, visit the Hoyt Sherman Place box office or call 515-244-0507.
Ticket proceeds will also benefit the Principal Charity Classic Birdies for Charity Program, and help to provide meals to local food pantries through Outreach and the YMCA community packaging programs.
