On September 16, Richard H. Pildes, Sudler Family Professor of Constitutional Law at New York University School of Law, will deliver a lecture on “The Fundamental Transformation in the Law and Practice of Modern Warfare” at 3 p.m. in the Sussman Theater of the Olmsted Center at Drake University. This event is free and open to the public.
During this lecture Pildes will be covering topics such as changes in warfare tactics, terrorism, and the United States’ right to protect civilians against government use of chemical weapons. Pildes is considered one of the nation’s leading experts on public law and legal issues that impact democracy. His writings have been published in newspapers such as the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, and he co-authored The Law of Democracy: Legal Structure of the Political Process, a casebook that is widely used in law schools across the country.
Pildes is considered a specialist on a variety of subjects, including the Voting Rights Act, alternative voting systems, the history of disenfranchisement in the United States, and the relationship between constitutional law and democratic politics in the structure of democratic institutions.
