The Drake Phi Delta Chi chapter-a national professional pharmaceutical fraternity-was recognized as the top chapter in the country, receiving the Emory W. Thurston Grand President’s Award (known as the Thurston Cup).
The Thurston Cup is presented to the chapter that has promoted the profession of pharmacy and Phi Delta Chi to the fullest extent during the preceding year. This is the second year in a row the Drake chapter has won the award. Phi Delta Chi puts on a variety of professional, social, and service-oriented events throughout the year.
“The Thurston is so important to our chapter because it represents the strength of a chapter in every area–our service and professional projects, our scholarship and
leadership skills, and even our brotherhood,” says Jaclyn Stoffel, worthy chief councilor of the chapter.”We don’t do what we do for the awards, but it feels wonderful to have our hard work and hours of dedication recognized. The Cup is a symbol of all of our small successes, and we feel honored to have received this national award!”
“This is the Psi chapter’s sixth Thurston Cup in the last 12 years,” said Charles Phillips, professor of pharmacy administration and assistant dean of assessment, who serves as the faculty advisor for the organization. “The students involved in Psi are a tremendous group of individuals who continue to make a difference in the community and in the pharmacy profession.”
Phi Delta Chi consists of 90 chapters nationwide. At the fraternity’s 69th Grand Council meeting held in Lexington, KY., the Drake Pharmacy chapter received several other awards recognizing its commitment to professional development, service and academics:
