The Drake University Office of Residence Life and the Central Iowa Tobacco-Free Partnership (CITP) are co-sponsoring a screening of the documentary Addiction Incorporated on Wednesday, April 25 in Bulldog Theater.
The film, directed by Charles Evans, Jr., chronicles the story of Victor DeNoble, a major tobacco company scientist who famously revealed industry secrets to the public. DeNoble’s efforts were made at a huge personal risk, but eventually led to the first federal tobacco regulations.
The event — which is free and open to the public — will begin at 7 p.m. Community members and Drake students are encouraged to attend. Bulldog Theater is located in lower Olmsted Center at 2875 University Avenue.
The CITP was established as part of the national landmark settlement with the tobacco industry. The mission of CITP is to raise awareness about second-hand smoke, promote clean indoor air, prevent the initiation of tobacco use and promote cessation of tobacco use in Polk, Dallas, Madison and Warren counties.
