Drake University Head Start Needs Volunteers

Reading is Fundamental, the nation’s oldest and largest children’s literacy organization delivering free books and literacy resources to those who need them most, is proud to partner with Drake University Head Start, the largest Head Start grantee in the state of Iowa.

Together they are hosting an event at the Science Center of Iowa on Saturday, April 14th from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and they are encouraging faculty, staff and students of the School of Education to volunteer. Volunteers are being sought to assist with the following activities.

Assisting families with the sign in and sign out process
Helping seat families for mealtime and bringing meals to the families
Assisting with Special Guest Readers
Guiding families to the Science Center exhibits
Serving as Theatre Ushers and Greeters
Distributing books to families upon exit

Volunteers are asked to serve one-hour shifts during the event. All volunteers are welcome to experience the Science Center exhibits before or after their shift. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Leslie Merriman at 515-271-4027 or Claudia Murphy at 515-271-3072.
