Drake alumni will share their experiences in Afghanistan

Two Drake alumni will return to campus to speak on “An Afghan Odyssey: Legal & Media Issues through the Eyes of Two Lawyers Deployed with the Iowa National Guard” on March 13 at 7 p.m. in Bulldog Theater, Olmsted Center. The event is sponsored by The Principal Financial Group Center for Global Citizenship, the International Law Society, and the Military Law Association. The event is free and open to the public.

Bill Kelly, LW’99, and Maj. Mike Wunn, LW’01, will speak about their time in Afghanistan. Kelly has been with the Iowa Army National Guard for 16 years. In 2010, he deployed to Afghanistan with the 2/34th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, “Task Force Red Bulls,” as the brigade junior advocate. He is currently a senior shareholder at Davis Brown Law Firm in litigation.

Wunn has served as a public affairs officer with the Iowa Army National Guard for 21 years.  He also deployed to Afghanistan in 2010 with “Task Force Red Bulls” to provide media support and guidance. Wunn is now the Iowa Guard’s Strategic Communications Officer and was selected to be the International Partnership Specialist, coordinating the state’s partnership program with Kosovo.
