The bodies were later revealed to be undocumented Guatemalan immigrants, killed by drug smugglers in an attempt to distract Boarder Control. The murders prompted a large-scale investigation, as well as international media attention.
Interviewees include one of the victim’s brothers, the train’s crooked conductor and the case’s lead investigator. The film deals with the impact of the murders on the national immigration debate, painting it as a complex, multi-dimensional issue.
On Wednesday, Nov. 3, Krantz will be visiting several Drake University journalism classes to discuss the film, the role of the media and immigration issues. Several professors have designated extra room for students interested in viewing the film and attending Kratz’s discussion.
