The Drake University Board of Trustees recognizes Madeleine Maxwell’s contributions
In addition to the traditional festivities that accompany the annual Francis Marion Drake Society dinner, Drake supporters took an opportunity to express their appreciation for the University’s first lady, Madeleine Maxwell. The Drake University Board of Trustees formally recognized the contributions made by Mrs. Maxwell since she devoted herself full time in 1999 to work alongside her husband, President David Maxwell, in service to the University.
Mrs. Maxwell has transformed the president’s residence into a hub for Drake activity as she continually finds innovative ways to bring campus and community together.
“I was speechless,” Mrs. Maxwell says of the honor. “I was touched and receiving the recognition surrounded by so many Drake friends on the most special night of the year for the University was especially lovely.”
In noting her outstanding contributions to Drake and the Greater Des Moines area — which have elevated the University in the eyes of alumni and regional and academic communities — the board acknowledged the crucial but often vital role an involved spouse plays in University leadership. Maxwell is committed to traveling to meet with alumni and friends of Drake and attending events as a representative of the University, leaving people all over the world with a positive impression of Drake.
