After five successful years of transforming chicken wing consumption into charitable fundraising, I-CARE and Delta Theta Phi, a fraternity of Drake University Law School students, announced today the sixth annual Eat-A-Thon will take place at 8 p.m. on October 20. This year, the event will be hosted by a new location, People’s Court, 216 Court Ave. third floor.In the Eat-A-Thon, several Drake University students compete to eat as many chicken wings as they can in 15 minutes. Contestants vie for nearly $1,000 in prizes and the title of Eat-A-Thon Champion. In an effort to reach the goal of $10,000, I-CARE asks donors to pledge an amount of money for each chicken wing a contestant eats. Last year’s champion consumed more than 125 chicken wings and the event brought in more than $9,700 in donations and pledges. The 2011 Eaters will be announced on the I-CARE Facebook page.
“The Eat-A-Thon continues to be highly popular and successful for
I-CARE, helping us make a valuable difference in the lives of many
Central Americans and Iowans,” said Ben Parrott, I-CARE president. “We
hope each year the Eat-A-Thon not only raises money for our cause, but
raises non-profit awareness and introduces I-CARE and our projects to
more people.”
All proceeds are donated to I-CARE, an Iowa non-profit corporation with federal 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Donations are tax deductible and can be made securely through I-CARE’s online PayPal account. I-CARE was founded in 2005 by Drake University Law School students. I-CARE engages in charitable projects in Central America, and improves the quality of life of Iowans and Central Americans through relationship building and mutually beneficial exchanges of ideas, culture, and charitable goods and services.
EAT-A-THON
The sixth annual Eat-A-Thon, a chicken-wing eating contest and fundraiser, will feature more than 10 contestants, hungry to be named the Eat-A-Thon Champion and win prizes. Live band karaoke will take place after the eating contest.
