Fall and Spring SOE Graduates Wrap up A Successful Year

As we prepare for the upcoming school year and the incoming class of freshmen and transfer/graduate students, it’s fun to look back at the success our 2010-2011 student teachers had this past year.

During the fall 2010 semester, the SOE placed thirty-eight amazing student teachers in Des Moines metro area schools with one teacher completing an eight-week placement in Australia.  As the students’ experiences were winding down, numerous students received that much anticipated phone call, offering them full-time teaching positions to begin immediately (January 3, 2011) or to substitute for long-term leaves.  As of today, many others have accepted teaching contracts and will officially begin their teaching careers in August.

Our spring 2011 semester brought the SOE a near record number of student teachers-74 to be exact.  This talented group worked very hard, and, once again, many have received teaching contracts for the upcoming school year.  The locations range from Taiwan/China, Costa Rica and the Peace Corps to right here in the Des Moines area.  How exciting it is to have our former Drake students working with students all over the world (and right here close to home)!

Congratulations and good luck to all of you.  Thank you for being great ambassadors of Drake University.
