Extension Education’s Patti Verlengia Retires

Longtime Drake University and School of Education staff member Patti Verlengia is retiring after 14 years of commitment, dedication and service.

Patti grew up in Des Moines and attended Roosevelt High School. After graduation, Patti travelled west and found herself and her husband (Jim) in Colorado where she studied at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.  Traveling with her husband across the United States she found herself in Florida where she found employment at Disney World.  Eventually the couple found their way back to Iowa and Patti became employed here at Drake.

Patti is currently the Budget Manager and Off Campus Site Coordinator for the Drake Extension Education Office.  She has served on numerous university committees including the Staff Suggestion and Evaluation Committee (SSEC), which is now the university’s All Staff Council with the Special Events and Community Service subcommittee. She has enjoyed her work with university committees, especially in helping with the development and implementation of staff development initiatives such as Excellence in Learning. For Patti, working with other university departments and programs across campus was a bonus that allowed her to get an idea of how things worked throughout the university.

She noted that she was very appreciative for the great opportunities that Drake has provided her and her family. Patti will remain in the metro area and may be reached at her home phone or address.  When asked what she planned on doing during her retirement, she had three simple words, “Family, family & family.”
