Let’s DU Lunch to feature CEO of Des Moines Visitors Bureau

Greg Edwards, president and CEO of Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau will speak as part of the “Let’s DU Lunch” series on Wednesday, April 7.

The talk will be held at AllPlay, 615 Third Street in downtown Des Moines, and is open to the public. Networking begins at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch and the program at noon.

Edwards has led destination marketing efforts in Des Moines for a decade. He has nearly 30 years of experience in the hospitality field and has also managed convention and visitors bureaus in Illinois and Kansas.

Edwards reorganized the Des Moines Area Sports Commission and has tripled the amount of convention and event bookings during his tenure.

The luncheon costs $15 and reservations are highly recommended by March 31 due to limited seating.

Drake University and the Greater Des Moines Partnership sponsor the “Let’s DU Lunch” series.

Downtown Street Painting

Community members will be able to help kick off Relays in true Drake
fashion at the inaugural Downtown Street Painting, where local
businesses and organizations will gather to paint Court Avenue
sidewalks between Third and Fourth streets. Rain location is the atrium of Capital Square at Nollen Plaza.

Registration
will be open from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and judging will begin at 11:30
a.m. The cost to register is $250 for business entrants and $125 for
nonprofit and community organizations. Registration forms, which are available online, and designs must be submitted to Drake’s alumni office for review by Wednesday, April 14.

Alumni Awards Reception

Six Drake University alumni will be recognized for their career accomplishments and loyalty to the University at an effervescent evening reception on Thursday, April 22.

The event, which is free and open to Drake alumni and friends, will begin with a reception, champagne toast and awards ceremony from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Cowles Library Reading Room.

Alumni from the classes of 2004, 2005 and 2006 and pharmacy classes of 2006, 2007 and 2008 will gather for a reception and reunion.
