Drake University’s Cowles Library recently released the University’s first smart-phone application for 10 of the library’s online search databases.

“The mobile application is the first of its kind on Drake’s campus,” said Susan Breakenridge, Cowles Library coordinator of administrative services. “It offers a more user-friendly approach to library resources via smart phones.”

Instead of pulling up an entire Web site, Drake students, faculty and staff can now upload a phone-friendly Web interface to access the following search databases:

  • Academic Search Complete
  • Biological Abstracts
  • Business Source Complete
  • Communication & Mass Media
  • Education Resource Information Center (ERIC)
  • Facts & Comparisons
  • Medline
  • Medline Plus
  • PsychART
  • PsychInfo

“This is the first in a new generation of library services that will harness new technology applications that will advance access to scholarly resources,” said Rod Henshaw, dean of Cowles Library and professor of librarianship.

The interface is compatible with Android, Blackberry, Dell Axim, iPhone and Palm 750 mobile devices.
