Drake’s Coalition of Black Students and Student Activities Board, are sponsoring “Catwalks for a Cause: A Fashion Show for All” at 6:30 p.m. in Olmsted Center, 2875 University Ave.
The fashion show, which is part of the coalition’s Black History Month celebration, will also include a clothing drive to benefit the Iowa Homeless Youth Centers.
Admission for “Catwalks for a Cause” is $2 or a piece of gently worn clothing or a new garment. All proceeds from the fashion show and clothing drive will benefit Iowa Homeless Youth Centers.
“We are extremely grateful to the Drake student organizations for their efforts in planning and hosting this event,” said Brad Whipple, director of Iowa Homeless Youth Centers.
“We clearly know the importance of having good people like this offer their support to the work we do in helping youth transition successfully to adulthood,” he added. “The clothes donations are greatly appreciated and will be put to good use by our participants.”
The show will feature items from local vendors including: Betty Jane, Big Moe’s Clothing, Blond Genius, fab’rik, Lowery’s Department Store, Muse, Siren and Vitae Design Collective.
“It has taken a lot of hard work by some extremely dedicated and highly motivated individuals to pull this off and I couldn’t be happier with the way things are turning out,” said Lawrence Crawford, a Drake junior public relations major, who serves as committee co-chair for the event.
“The fact that there are so many different styles, models and vendors being showcased on the runway, distinguishes this show from any others that have ever been done,” Crawford said. “Even better, the proceeds are going to benefit a good cause.”
