Drake guest recital will feature trumpet performer

Trumpet player Susan Rider will perform a guest recital at Drake University at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be held on the Jordan Stage in Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main, 2507 University Ave.

Rider is a performer and educator who has taught at Indiana University, Purdue University and in the Ector Country Independent school district in Texas.

She received trumpet performance degrees from the University of Northern Iowa and Indiana University and has studied trumpet with Edmund Cord, Charles Gorham, Randy Grabowski and Keith Johnson.

Since 1997, Rider has been a member of the “The President’s Own” Marine Band. She serves as co-editor for the International Women’s Brass Conference Newsletter.

Rider has performed with numerous music groups including the Owensboro Symphony of Kentucky, the Evansville Philharmonic, the New World Symphony and The Moody Blues.
