CONTACT: Tory Olson, 515-271-1834, tory.olson@drake.edu

Interested singers are invited to join the Drake University Community Chorus for its first rehearsal on Tuesday, Jan. 19.

The rehearsal will be held in Monroe Hall, the lower level of the Harmon Fine Arts Center, 25th Street and Carpenter Avenue, at 6:30 p.m.

The chorus, which is a non-audition ensemble open to all interested adults, will rehearse each Tuesday following Jan. 19 in preparation for an April 18 concert.

The concert’s theme is “Where You Belong” and will focus on the concept of home, addressing such topics as safe and affordable housing, immigration, eternal home, homelessness and home as a psychological and emotional shelter.

In addition to the concert, a speaker series in conjunction with “Where You Belong” is also being planned. Chorus members will be provided with volunteer opportunities to help organizations within the Des Moines community.

A post-concert volunteer fair will also give audience members a chance to sign up for volunteer opportunities at a variety of organizations.

To join the ensemble and participate in the concert, singers must report to the first rehearsal.
