Kieran Williams, a political science lecturer at Drake University, will present a talk titled “Multiple Russias” on Tuesday, July 7, as part of a dialogue
series sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc., the Iowa Council for International Understanding and the Greater Des Moines Partnership.

Williams’ presentation will take place from noon to 1 p.m. at the
Greater Des Moines Partnership Arthur Davis Conference Room, 700
Locust St., Suite 100 in Des Moines. Attendees are invited to bring their own
lunches to the event, which is free and open to the public.

In his presentation, Williams will address:

  • Current mainstream media portrayals of Russia
  • Russia’s subtle internal politics
  • How the two perceptions of modern Russia compare and contrast, and what we can take away from the differences

Before joining Drake, Williams taught at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies at University College London, the largest institution in the United Kingdom for the study of central, eastern and southeastern Europe and Russia.

The monthly dialog series seeks to engage Des Moines’ public and business
professionals in dialogue on global issues and Iowa’s personal and
organizational connections abroad.
