University of Iowa Assistant Professor Isaac West will
visit Drake University on Friday, May 1, to deliver a lecture titled,
“Undoing Legal Shame: Trans/Disabled Coalitional Politics & Bathroom
Activism.”

The talk, which is free and open to the public, will begin
at 3:30 p.m. in the Honors Lounge in Medbury Hall, 2730 Forest Ave.

West, assistant professor in the Department of
Communication Studies, focuses his research and teaching on legal rhetorics,
queer studies and everyday life.

He is working on a book titled, “Legal Trans/scripts:
Transgender Rhetorics of Law and Everyday Life,” which examines how
transgender individuals make their lives more livable within heterosexual and
bigendered hegemonies.

The event is sponsored by the Department for the Study of
Culture and Society and the Drake Center for the Humanities.
