Drake University Law School is hosting the “Presidents Helping Children” exhibit at the Neal and Bea Smith Law Center, 2400 University Ave.

Underscoring the role of the federal government in the lives of children, the exhibit features past U.S. presidents and their work on behalf of children.

The traveling exhibit, which will continue through Friday, April 3, is free and open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Smith Law Center has banners displayed outside as well as interesting exhibits inside and written handouts for people who come to view the exhibit.

“Presidents Helping Children” is sponsored by Every Child Matters in Iowa, a state campaign of the Every Child Matters Education Fund, and The Joan and Lyle Middleton Center for Children’s Rights at Drake Law School.

For eight years, the Joan and Lyle Middleton Center for Children’s Rights has been a leading advocate for children in Iowa and across the nation.

The exhibit highlights the contributions of the country’s presidents.

“We are co-sponsoring and hosting this exhibit in an effort to raise
public awareness that a true presidential legacy involves making
decisions that affect future generations of Americans,” said Jerry
Foxhoven, director of the Middleton Center for Children’s Rights and
executive director of the Drake Legal Clinic.

According to a recent UNICEF study, the United States ranked 20th out of 21 rich democracies in child well-being.

“We hope that this exhibit will encourage Iowans and other
Americans to urge President Obama to support programs that improve
child well-being, leaving this president among those who left a legacy
of love for America’s children,” Foxhoven said.

A story about the exhibit appeared in Tuesday’s Des Moines Register. Read the story online.
