Drake offers seminar on exploring opportunities for entrepreneurs

As part of a continuing effort to help people cope with the recession, Drake University will hold a seminar Friday, March 27, on Uncovering Opportunities — Entrepreneurship Here! How! Now!

The half-day seminar, which is open to the public and costs $10, will start with registration at 8 a .m. in the lobby of Aliber Hall, 2847 University Ave.

The opening session will begin at 8:30 a.m. in room 101 of Aliber Hall with a presentation by Leisa Fox of the Association of Business and Industry. Her talk is titled “Why Iowa? A Dialogue Surrounding Iowa’s Most Valuable Resources.”

Next, there will be breakout sessions starting at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. The presenters will be:

  • Lori Day of FocusFirst, who will discuss “Reinventing Yourself and Using a Coach to Help”
  • Doug Lewis of the Iowa Department of Economic Development, who will share information on state grants and loans
  • Mike Wagner of White Rabbit Group, who will address “Taking Your Brand to the Marketplace”

The closing session, which will begin at 11:30 a.m., will feature a presentation titled “Why Starting During a Recession is an OK Thing To Do” by Tom Swartwood of both The Pointer Group LLC and Swartwood Hesse Inc.

The seminar is the third in a series of three seminars sponsored by the Center for Graduate and Professional Studies in Drake’s College of Business and Public Administration. Dardis Communications Inc. of Chicago and Des Moines is co-sponsoring the series.
