Women’s Choral Collaboration to feature guest clinician Sigrid Johnson

Drake University Choral Department will host the
collaborative Women’s Choral Festival Concert on Thursday, Feb. 19, featuring
Sigrid Johnson, clinician and conductor.

The participating choirs are the Drake Chorale, Cantamus
from Iowa State University and the Women’s Ensemble from Heartland Youth Choir.

This free and public concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. on the
Jordan Stage of Sheslow Auditorium in Old Main, 2507 University Ave. Choral
clinics also will be held throughout the afternoon prior to the performance.

The program will include a variety of pieces, including the
following:

 

  • “Remember
    Me” by Stephen Chapman

  • “Bonny
    Wood Green” by Stephen Hatfield

  • “With
    a Little Help From My Friends” by John Lennon/Paul McCartney/Lobaugh

  • “How
    High the Moon,” arranged by Gwyn Arch 
  • “Go
    Where I Send Thee,” arranged by Stephen Hatfield

 

Johnson is associate conductor and director of special
events for Philip Brunelle’s VocalEssence. She was conductor of the Manitou
Singers, a chorus for first-year women at St. Olaf College in Northfield,
Minn., for 24 years. She also has taught voice at the University of Minnesota
and Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn.

An active clinician, Johnson has been a guest at choral
workshops and state music festivals in 30 states. She is known for her skill at
blending voices, perfecting tone and assisting with vocal production, with a
specialty in women’s literature.

In 2006 Johnson received the F. Melius Christiansen Award,
the highest honor bestowed by the American Choral Directors Association of
Minnesota.
