Drake University senior advertising students will hold their annual silent auction Tuesday, March 11. The auction, which is open to the general public, will last from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Pomerantz Stage in the Olmsted Center, 2875 University Ave.
The 32 advertising students, who collectively call themselves “Blue Inc.,” have received donations from some of Des Moines’ premier businesses including Active Endeavors, Bella Salon and Splash Seafood Bar and Grill.
All proceeds from the auction will fund the team’s trip to compete in the regional American Advertising Federation’s National Student Advertising Competition the weekend of April 18 in Omaha, Neb. Across the country, more than 3,000 students will vie at the district level for 16 spots at nationals.
This year the students are developing an advertising campaign for AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). To meet the challenges presented by the client and simulate a real-world work environment, Blue Inc. has divided into different departments, each of which handles a specific portion of the workload.
Dorothy Pisarski, associate professor of advertising, has long taught this senior capstone course, but this year she is sharing the responsibility with Sandy Henry, assistant professor of advertising.
