Construction begins on new accounting resource center

This summer, the College of Business and Public Administration will demonstrate the effectiveness of a buzzword that’s an important part of corporate speak: repurposing.

Construction will kick-off for the Lee Flory Accounting Resource Center in the lower level of Aliber Hall once students leave campus later this month. Rather than building from scratch, the current lab will be re-modeled and enhanced with new, state-of-the-art technology to become more user-friendly for accounting students. The revamped resource center will feature a flexible design with moveable furniture, allowing the space to transform easily into a small classroom or meeting room.

“We’re very excited about the opportunity to make better use of the space and to have a technology upgrade,” said LouAnn Simpson, director of the School of Accounting.

Funding for the project was donated by Lee Flory, BN’49, retired executive from W.W. Grainger Company in Chicago. Flory was an accounting major at Drake and has been a generous scholarship donor to Drake in the past.

Construction of the Lee Flory Accounting Resource Center is scheduled for completion in August, and a grand opening of the new space will be held Sept. 14 in conjunction with the CBPA’s Accounting Career Fair.
