David Rees, nationally syndicated political cartoonist, will share his work and discuss writing at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, in the Reading Room of Drake University’s Cowles Library, 28th Street and University Avenue. Rees’ presentation, which is free and open to public, will launch the spring Drake Writers and Critics Series.

Rees is the creator of provocative political comics that appear regularly in Rolling Stone, The Guardian and on various office doors across the country. His comics have also been collected in several books, including “Get Your War On,” “Get Your War On II” and “My New Fighting Technique is Unstoppable.” A play adapted from his work is now showing at an off-Broadway theatre in New York, and sales of his books have raised almost $100,000 for land mine removal in western Afghanistan.

The schedule for the remainder of the series appears below:

  • Brian Leung, author of “World Famous Love Acts,” 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, Reading Room of Cowles Library.
  • Jennifer Perrine, Drake assistant professor of English, 8 p.m. Thursday, March 29, Reading Room of Cowles Library.
  • Dan Chaon, author of “You Remind Me of Me,” 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, Reading Room of Cowles Library.

The Drake Writers and Critics Series is sponsored by the Drake English Department and made possible by a grant from the Drake Center for the Humanities. For more information, contact Dina Smith at 515-271-3127 or dina.smith@drake.edu.
