Why sing just in the shower when you can join the Drake University/Community Chorus and share the joy of music with others?

Interested singers are invited to join the chorus by attending the first rehearsal of the spring semester at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, in the Monroe Recital Hall on the lower level of the Harmon Fine Arts Center, 25th Street and Carpenter Avenue. The chorus will rehearse from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays throughout the spring semester under the direction of Aimee Beckmann-Collier, Drake professor of conducting.

The Drake University/Community Chorus is an ensemble that provides members of the Greater Des Moines community, as well as Drake students and staff, with the opportunity to sing masterworks of the choral repertoire. The ensemble will perform Brahms’ “Requiem” on April 15, 2007.

“Most lovers of art music would include the Brahms ‘Requiem’ on their top ten list,” Beckmann-Collier said. “One is forever changed by rehearsing and performing this piece. We’re going to do some interdisciplinary learning activities in conjunction with the rehearsal and performance of the piece. These will explore the topics addressed by the work, including death, grief, the meaning of life and various cultural and religious perspectives on death.”
