Drake alumna Phyllis Staplin recently was honored as Iowa Educator of the Year by the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute. Staplin, an adjunct faculty member at Drake, teaches courses in the School of Education.

Staplin is also director of curriculum for the West Des Moines Schools, president of the School of Education International Advisory Board and the recipient of the school’s Distinguished Alumni Award. Her husband, Carl Staplin, recently retired as a longtime Drake music professor.

“Drake University would like to congratulate Dr. Staplin for her dedication and achievement,” said Janet McMahill, Drake alumna and dean of the School of Education. Staplin earned her specialist degree and Doctor of Education from Drake.
