The Drake University Community School of Music is offering scholarships for individual instruction for young musicians for the academic year beginning this fall.

Middle school and high school cellists may audition for scholarships on Sept. 2. All other musicians and vocalists in elementary through high school will audition on Sept. 9. Application materials and audition requirements for the scholarships are available by calling 515-271-4011 or online at https://wwww.drake.edu/artsci/Music_Dept/ducsom.html.

The deadline for applications is Aug. 28.

Scholarship awards will be made on the basis of both talent and need. The awards will reduce tuition cost up to 75 percent.

Cello instruction will be given by Ashley Sandor Sidon, Drake assistant professor of cello.  Sidon taught and coached cello and chamber music at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in Shanghai, China.

While teaching in Shanghai, she toured Southeast Asia to present recitals and master classes at provincial cultural centers, music schools and other concert venues. Sidon has performed under artists such as Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, Michael Tilson Thomas, and Christopher Wilkins.
