Marty Lecture Workshop: "Objects\, States\, and Attributes: Technical Components for Building Serious Games" from Mark Franz [Academics]
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM @ Cowles Library 201 "Objects, States, and Attributes: Technical Components for Building Serious Games": A Hands-On Workshop for Students, Faculty, and Staff. This workshop will explore three important components of game design. In addition, Prof. Franz will introduce participants to terminology related to serious games and the sub-genre of art games. The presentation also includes an introduction to the open source, artist-centered programming language called Processing, which attendees will have a chance to practice using. Those attending are encouraged to bring a laptop computer onto which they have authorization to download and install software from the web. The Marty Lectureship is a program of the Center for the Humanities at Drake University and is supported by a generous grant from the Ralph and Sylvia Green Foundation.
Inaugural Myron "Mike" Marty Lecture: "Form\, Behavior\, Content" with Mark Franz. [Academics]
7:00 PM - 8:30 PM @ Cowles Library Reading Room "Form, Behavior, Content." Alan Cooper, the creator of Visual Basic, describes the field of User Experience Design as an intersection of three concerns: Form, Behavior, and Content. Franz will discuss these concerns in terms of their relationship to his current work, and how they can be utilized to create structures for understanding multidisciplinary creative practices. ?
