After 51 years, south-side teacher puts down her chalk

Frieda Griffin, of the southside,"began her 51-year career in education in Pleasantville, where she taught four years. She and her husband, George, moved to Des Moines in 1964, and she then taught 17 years at the former Kurtz Junior High School (now Lincoln South), and 11 years at McCombs Middle School. For the past 19 years she has worked as a substitute teacher at McCombs, Weeks, Callanan and Brody middle schools and Roosevelt and Lincoln high schools."
