Drake University alumnus Daniel J. Cosgrove, vice president of business development for Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc., will speak as part of Drake’s “Let’s DU Lunch” series on Wednesday, Nov. 4.

This program is open to the public and will be held at AllPlay, 615 Third Street in downtown Des Moines. Networking begins at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch and the program at noon.

At Pioneer, Cosgrove takes a strategic approach to research business development, quickly filling gaps in technology and competency and looking for ways to more effectively compete for alliances with technology providers.

Before serving as vice president of business development, Cosgrove led Pioneer’s intellectual property group and was corporate counsel.

Cosgrove formerly was a partner at the law firm of Zarley, McKee, Thomte, Voorhees & Sease in Des Moines, where he practiced primarily in the area of patent litigation. He is licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is a member of several bars, including the State Court of Iowa and the U.S. Supreme Court.

A native of Sioux City, Iowa, Cosgrove received his bachelor’s degree in engineering from Iowa State University in 1989 and his law degree from Drake in 1992.

The cost of the lunch is $17 and reservations are recommended by Wednesday, Oct. 28, due to limited seating. Drake University and the Greater Des Moines Partnership sponsor the “Let’s DU Lunch” series, which will resume in February, 2010.
