Shelley Fairbairn is the resident expert on English as a Second Language (ESL) or English Language Learning (ELL). She literally wrote the book on the topic, Differentiating Instruction and Assessment for English Language Learners: A Guide for K–12 Teachers, and directs the ESL endorsement at the School of Education. She is also well versed in student and program assessment, intercultural communication, and how to make the new Common Core State Standards accessible for English language learners.
