Des Moines Downtown School teacher and Drake alumna Barb Leise received the 2010 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, a national honor.

Drake alumna Diane Yohn was recently named one of 25 Women Industry Leaders in the Twin Cities as part of the publication's annual Women in Business Awards project. Yohn, a longtime executive at North Star Resource Group, is a major force behind the growth of the financial-services firm.

Drake alumna Chris Callahan was recently selected as Education Minnesota "“ Hastings, Teacher of the Year. She currently teaches third grade at Christa McAuliffe Elementary School.

Drake graduate student Tony Shafer, 30, will receive a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling on Saturday. Shafer suffered a stroke and underwent two brain surgeries in the fall of 2003, during his fifth year in Drake's pharmacy program.

Drake University alumnus Sid Juwarker, who earned a degree in environmental science, works as a senior project manager at Barker Lemar Engineering Consultants in West Des Moines. He started there in 2005.
