Drake University Receives 6th Consecutive CPN Seal for Commitment to Student Safety, Achieves “Dynasty Status”

For the sixth consecutive year, Drake University secured the 2025 Campus Prevention Network (CPN) Seal of Prevention™. The CPN Seal of Prevention, presented by Vector Solutions, recognizes institutions of higher education that demonstrate exceptional leadership in student safety and well-being. Drake’s consistent record of excellence has earned the institution the status of “Dynasty University,” a term referencing its repeated achievement of this prestigious seal.

Drake University has partnered with Vector Solutions for the past seven years to provide its online curriculum, Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates (SAPU). The course is assigned to incoming first-year students and newly enrolled graduate students with the expectation that it is completed before classes begin. The course defines concerning situations, provides information on active bystander skills, and ensures students know where to access campus resources.

This foundational course is complemented by mandatory Welcome Weekend programming for incoming first-years that focuses on consent education and campus resources. The coupling of these two programs demonstrates to the campus community how seriously the University takes sexual and interpersonal misconduct.

“Receiving the CPN Seal of Prevention for the sixth year in a row is a powerful validation of our University’s unwavering dedication to the safety and well-being of every student,” said Lynne Cornelius, associate dean of students and director of prevention education and programs. “Our prevention strategy, which combines the Vector Solutions curriculum with in-person programming, is central to fostering a culture of care and accountability. Achieving ‘Dynasty’ status is a testament to the hard work of our students and staff in building a safe and supportive community.”

Data from the 2024–2025 SAPU Impact Report demonstrates the program’s success.

  • Impact on Students: 83% of students agreed that SAPU provided them with skills to better support someone who has experienced sexual assault. Additionally, 83% reported increased confidence in their ability to intervene when they witnessed concerning behavior.
  • Healthy Attitudes: A significant 89% of students agreed in the Post-Course Survey that they would make sure to communicate with the other person about what they want in a sexual situation.
  • Community Readiness: 83% of students expressed an awareness of support resources related to sexual assault and relationship violence at the institution.

“The CPN Seal of Prevention recipients represent the top institutions nationwide, underscoring their commitment to academic excellence and the well-being of their students,” said Jonathan Cherins, CEO at Vector Solutions. “Our team at Vector Solutions is proud to recognize the great value these leading institutions and organizations are providing students and the commitment we share to making higher education communities safer and stronger.”

The CPN Seal of Prevention criteria are based on the Principles of Effective Prevention Programs (Nation, et al., 2003). Seal of Prevention recipients have, on average, an 8.3% higher first-year retention rate and a 9.6% higher on-time graduation rate compared to non-Seal institutions.
