Second Drake Jazz Combo night features a taste of New Orleans

The Drake Jazz Combos will return for their second concert of the fall season on October 12. The performance will be held at 7 p.m. in the Patty and Fred Turner Jazz Center, located on the north end of the Harmon Fine Arts Center, 2505 Carpenter Ave. Seating is limited to 100 audience members. The performance is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature jazz standards from all styles and eras, as well as original tunes and arrangements. Drake’s jazz curriculum focuses on direct application of all materials learned, and members of various combos play in professional ensembles in the Greater Des Moines area. Members of both the Uplift Quartet and the Ian Copland Trio are involved in the Drake combo program.

The state-of-the-art Patty and Fred Turner Jazz Center was constructed thanks to a $1.5 million dollar gift by Drake alumnus and retired senior chairman of McDonald’s Corp., Fred Turner.
