Each year, in conjunction with the annual Supreme Court Banquet, Drake Law honors one of its own. This year’s winner of the Drake Law Alumna of the Year Award is Jane Lorentzen, LW’91.
This distinction is given to a graduate who has demonstrated outstanding service to the legal profession, to his or her community, and to the Law School. Lorentzen earned a B.S. from the University of Iowa in 1986 and went on to receive her J.D. from Drake in 1991. While at Drake Law she received the Martin Tollefson Award, the highest recognition for leadership and service at the Law School. Since graduating, she has been a highly successful practitioner in the areas of litigation and workers compensation.
Lorentzen has a record of long service to the Polk County and Iowa Bar Associations culminating in a term as president of the Iowa State Bar Association (ISBA) during 2009-2010. As she left the ISBA presidency, she served two terms as president of the Law School’s Board of Counselors.
“She is, quite simply, a community leader, a skilled practitioner as a shareholder in the firm of Hopkins & Huebner, P.C., and a leader of the bar,” Dean Allan Vestal said. “She is a consistent, valued friend and generous supporter of the Law School.”
