Drake University Theatre Arts is proud to kick off the spring semester with a double feature of student-directed works, one of which will be the stage premiere of an original full-length musical written by Drake University students.
About the Productions
Thompson’s Luck
Written by Harry Greenwood Grover and directed by Drake University student Jacob Burns, this emotionally charged one-act play follows a man too arrogant to accept that something bad could happen to his family, and through that arrogance, he inadvertently causes the bad thing to happen. This emotionally heavy show allows four performers to lay everything they have out in the open and gives the audience the opportunity to take it in and sit in the weight of the piece.
Duck, Duck, Gay Duck
Written and directed by Gabe Borken and Asher Jean Speck, Duck, Duck, Gay Duck is an exciting and brand-quackin’ new original musical comedy that celebrates being who you are, knowing who you are, and loving who the duck you are. A week before graduating high school, a young duck named Gay finds his life completely shaken when he is paired together with his crush, Dick, on a school project. Tensions arise when the school diving team tries to get between Gay and Dick, prompting Gay to make a decision that will change his life forever. The musical is a celebration of queerness, acceptance, family, and a chance for all the ducks out there who have felt like they don’t belong to see that they are worthy, loved, and accepted.
