Summer networking events

The Greater Des Moines Partnership has a series of summer events for interns and college student in general. All events are free and several are led by Drake grads.

Networking Fair is Tuesday

The Schneider Symposium Series will sponsor a networking fair from 5-6 pm, Tuesday, April 8, in Olmsted Center followed by a panel discussion in Sussman Theater from 6-7 pm titled, “Homelessness in Des Moines: A Community Conversation.” This event will be a great opportunity for students interested in changemaking to learn about internship and volunteer opportunities with several area non-profits and to gain a better understanding of growing housing insecurity in our community. The event is also posted to DUGood: https://givepul.se/2zf1xb

Drake’s current Slay Fellow for Social Justice, Elizabeth Talbert, is organizing this event. Dr. Talbert is an Assistant Professor of Sociology and one of the authors of the Unsheltered Des Moines Study (2022). This report, based on Drake students’ interviews with service providers and formerly homeless Iowans, remains a valuable resource to Des Moines’ housing advocates.
