Editor-in-Chief applications open for student media 

Are you interested in becoming an Editor-in-Chief of an award-winning student publication? Applications are now open through March 16 at 11:59 pm. Apply by submitting a resume, cover letter, references, and up to five samples of your work. Late applications will not be accepted. Interviews will be held on March 28 from 8 am to 11 am. T-D celebrates Student Press Freedom Day 

As you’re strolling through Meredith later this week, keep a lookout — or down — for info on the five First Amendment freedoms. The Times-Delphic will unveil First Amendment floor graphics to celebrate Student Press Freedom Day, celebrated annually on Feb. 27. We want YOU to scan the floor graphics’ QR codes to discover more about each freedom and engage in First Amendment discussions on TD’s Instagram. The floor graphics are funded by the Louis E. Ingelhart First Amendment Program.

Applications are now open for The Harkin Institute’s D.C. Experience Scholarships. These scholarships help cover the costs of housing and travel expenses for those completing an internship in Washington, D.C. Haven’t secured an internship yet? No problem. $10,000 Scholarship Opportunity  

Are you a college sophomore, junior, or senior passionate about advertising, media, marketing, or communications? The American Advertising Foundation is offering a $10,000 annual scholarship to support students pursuing degrees in advertising, journalism, PR, interactive marketing, commercial art, and related fields. 

Eligibility: Open to students attending U.S. colleges and universities 
Preference: Given to those planning a career in advertising or marketing 
Deadline: February 28, 2025

Be a Dotdash Meredith Apprentice 

You can work for the largest magazine media company in America. The DotDash Meredith Apprenticeship Program allows ambitious journalists and graphic designers the opportunity to earn both academic credit and gain professional, portfolio-level work experience.   

Selected students commit to working 15-20 hours per week at DotDash Meredith both semesters of either their junior or senior year. Apprentices earn a minimum of $15 an hour as well as up to three credits per semester. 

To apply either share a Google Drive link or send an email to jeff.inman@drake.edu containing a cover letter, resume, and (if applicable) up to five work samples all contained in one PDF by 5 p.m. Fri., March 14. Enter Sports Film Festival 

Submissions are now open for the 5th Annual NYU Sports Film Festival. The festival was created to celebrate the powerful intersection of sports and film, showcasing and awarding diverse forms of sports storytelling from around the world. Professional and student filmmakers outside of NYU are invited to enter our Open Documentary and Open Narrative categories. Additionally, for our 5th annual festival, we are continuing the Pitch Contest, inviting NYU entrants to submit sports media project pitches for presentation to a panel of industry professionals. 

The deadline to submit your work is March 14. 

SJMC Drake Relays T-Shirt Design Competition!   

This year, to celebrate the SJMC and Drake Relays, we are asking students/faculty/staff to submit their designs for an SJMC/Drake Relays T-Shirt! The “winning” design will receive a gift card to the Bulldog Shop and a free T-shirt with their design!  Designs will be accepted through Friday February 28th and SJMC Faculty/Staff will select the winning design at the March Faculty Meeting.
