Drake Law second-year student Beth Stevermer is among the nine students named to the 2023 Real Pork Scholars cohort by the National Pork Board. This two-year program is designed to offer professional mentorship and build a strong peer-to-peer network and professional training to help communicate technical information in the agricultural community.
Beth discovered the opportunity from a previous internship experience with the National Pork Board. “I chose to apply because I am passionate about the pork industry and want to grow my leadership skills, build a strong professional network, and give myself the tools necessary to become a future leader in the industry.”
Beth’s affinity for the food and agriculture industry was born while completing her bachelor’s degree in food science at Iowa State University. She was particularly interested in the regulatory and food safety aspects of the industry and wanted to continue her education to take her dedication to the field to the next level.
“I knew law school would give me more opportunities in agriculture to combine my background and passions,” said Beth. “I chose Drake because of the strong agricultural law program and because Iowa is an agriculturally focused state.”
Beth plans to stay within the agriculture industry, focusing on food companies or the pork industry.
