Next Generation Radio at IPR

Iowa Public Radio is hosting a Next Generation Radio project at IPR July 9 – 14th. Next Generation Radio was founded by NPR to help train the next generation of multimedia journalists. You can read more about the project and see examples of past projects here: https://nextgenradio.org/. The program is free, and selected applicants get a stipend for their work.

The application deadline is midnight on June 16th. You can apply here.

Legislative Slow-Pitch Softball at Principal Park, June 4

Do you want to watch Iowa lawmakers battle it out at Principal Park? Join Professor McCoy for the second annual Iowa Legislative Slow-Pitch Softball Game on Sunday, June 4. The game, hosted by the Greater Des Moines Partnership, starts after the Iowa Cubs’ 1 p.m. game (around 4 p.m.) Tickets are $14. Event proceeds will benefit the Puppy Jake Foundation and the Iowa Food Bank Association.

Volunteers still needed to assist with Latinos in Action

The School of Education is co-sponsoring a student leadership conference for middle and high school students on Friday, May 12 with the national organization Latinos in Action. LIA’s mission is to empower Latino youth to lead and strengthen their communities through college and career readiness. The conference will include an inspiring keynote speaker, informative workshops, cultural performances, and student competition awards. We welcome Drake faculty, staff, and student volunteers. SJMC Student Spotlight: Kay Awonaike

SJMC Student Kay Awonaike has been selected for a prestigious summer internship with The Washington Center program. Kay will be working for the BIED (Behavioral International Economic Development) Society as a policy research intern and social media coordinator at BIED’s headquarters in Washington D. C. Kay will also take a Social Entrepreneurship course through TWC program. Congratulations and best wishes for an amazing D.C. experience, Kay!
