SJMC to host international magazine conference
Drake SJMC will host the seventh international Mapping the Magazine conference, July 27-28. The “Magazines and the Moment” conference will be hybrid, with some attendees participating from Drake’s campus and others participating remotely from around the world. According to the conference website, the event “aims to create an intimate meeting of international magazine scholars from many disciplines (Media and Communications, Journalism, Gender and Cultural Studies, Sociology, Linguistics, English, History, Visual Communications) who are interested in exploring the current state of magazine research and possibly developing collaborative research projects.”

Marianne Coppock, JO’01, has been named CEO of the Stelter Group, which helps nonprofits with their fundraising needs. Coppock previously was at Two Rivers Marketing and Wixted & Company, and has a background in broadcasting.
Free webinar on climate solutions journalism
The Solutions Journalism Network, The Uproot Project, and The Solutions Project will host a free webinar on Thursday, June 30, 2:30-3:30 CDT to discuss the key findings from the recently released Climate Solutions Narrative Trends (CSNT) report, as well as how and why a growing number of journalists are covering climate justice stories. The Solutions Project releases the annual report to track the extent to which climate coverage focuses on equity issues, highlights community-led solutions, and features women spokespeople.
Journalists, journalism students, and representatives from journalism schools and organizations are invited to attend the webinar. The event is also open to funders, environmental justice leaders, and communications professionals at environmental and community-based organizations.
