George Stephanopoulos to moderate CHINA Town Hall interactive webcast at Drake

Drake University, once again, will serve as the local host site for CHINA Town Hall. The event will feature an interactive webcast moderated by George Stephanopoulos, former White House communications director to the Clinton administration. Stephanopoulos will be joined by expert panelists Stephen Orlins, Melanie Hart, Yasheng Huang, and Ely Ratner.

CHINA Town Hall is a live national conversation that provides Americans across the country the opportunity to talk about the U.S.-China relationship and the issues that are affecting their local communities. This year’s event will take place at more than 80 venues across the U.S. and China on Monday, Nov. 18, at 6 p.m. EST. The on-site discussion at Drake is scheduled on the same day, from 4:50 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. CT, in Sussman Theater of Drake’s Olmsted Center, facilitated by Professor David Skidmore and Professor Mary McCarthy of Drake Department of Political Science. The event is free and open to the public.

The annual event, organized by the National Committee on United States-China Relations, aims to engage Americans in the issues, challenges, and opportunities that the U.S.’s relationship with China presents through examining the complex U.S.-China relationship and its influence on the U.S. economy, policies, and security.

Following the national webcast, each of their local participating sites across the nation will host town hall-style discussions, with the goal of encouraging community members to talk openly about their attitudes, concerns, and feelings surrounding this intercontinental relationship.

The National Committee on United States-China Relations is a non-profit educational organization that encourages understanding of China and the United States between citizens of both countries. For 50 years, they have led initiatives and programs dedicated to fostering constructive relationships between the U.S. and China https://www.ncuscr.org/.
