Annual Media Now Drake high school journalism camp a resounding success

More than 90 middle and high school students, their advisers and teachers spent three days on campus and on field trips around Des Moines this week as participants in the annual Media Now Drake summer camp. The camp is co-hosted by the Drake School of Journalism and Mass Communication and St. Louis high school journalism teacher Aaron Manfull and his wife Kate. It introduces students to hands-on learning in photography, writing, design, leadership, video, social media and more, taught by media professionals and the nation’s best high school teachers. New this year: specialized tracks in entrepreneurship, sports and political communication. The students are kept busy with classes and activities from sun-up to sun-down, culminating with a “street chalking” event modeled after Drake’s famous street painting.
