Sophia Siegel, a junior in Environmental Science and Sustainability, has been awarded the Morris K. Udall and Stewart L. Udall Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship. This competitive award recognizes leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to Native American nations or to the environment. She is the first Drake student in 14 years to earn this scholarship.
“Sophia has an impressive record working on environmental educational issues on campus and in the community,” said Amahia Mallea, associate professor of history and Udall faculty representative. “This scholarship recognizes her potential for leadership in environmental fields. This prestigious award exemplifies the Drake faculty’s commitment to create opportunities for students and support them with mentorship.” In addition to the scholarship, Sophia will travel to Tucson, Arizona where the Udall Foundation is based to participate in a week-long orientation for Udall Scholars.
