SJMC Monday Memo | Jan. 27, 2015

Welcome back to campus! We hope your break was both restful and fun.

Some SJMC faculty and students have been busy this month with J Term activities:

Professor Jill Van Wyke and politics Professor Rachel Paine Caufield collaborated on a J Term seminar in Washington, D.C., that explored the new Congress.

Austin Cannon, a news-Internet junior, far right, and Taylor Larson, a public relations senior, second from right, were among five lucky Drake students to get a personal tour of the West Wing of the White House. The tour included a stop in the James Brady press briefing room. Ryan Price, a 2013 Drake alumnus who now works at the White House, hosted the tour. The other students pictured are, from left, Kate Brightwell (elementary education), Kati Seeman (LPS) and Katie Allen (LPS).

Professor Sandy Henry co-taught a J Term class with theater professors John Pomeroy and Josie Poppen that produced a music video.

JMC majors Kelsey Rooney (ADVC), Janet Eckles (RTVP) shoot documentary footage while Melanie Buck (ADVC) works on the set.

Reminders from Carla

SJMC dean’s assistant Carla McCrea reminds students that they must attend the first class session of each course, or contact the professor, or they will be dropped the class.

Other beginning-of-the-semester housekeeping:

  • Drop/add slips are still being done on paper this semester and submitted to the dean’s office.
  • The last day to add a class is this Friday, Jan. 30.
  • The last day to drop a class without getting a “W” on your transcript is Feb. 6.
  • The last day to drop with a “W” is March 27.

Scholarships

Keep an eye out on the table outside Carla’s office (Mer. 119) for scholarship applications for next year. Applications will be available throughout February.
