Drake Symphony Orchestra presents its spring concert

The Drake Symphony Orchestra, directed by Akira Mori, associate professor of music, will perform a concert on Friday, March 7. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Sheslow Auditorium, 2507 University Ave.

The 2013 Drake Concerto Competition winners, Katie Hahn (soprano) and Reuben Kebede (violin), will be featured as soloists in the concert. They will perform Verdi and Gounod’s arias, and Vieuxtemps’ Violin Concerto No. 5. The performance will conclude with Falla’s El Amor Brujo, which incorporates the Ritual Fire Dance.

Students audition for the Drake Symphony Orchestra annually. The orchestra performs four times per year, and each concert features an assorted repertoire of musical pieces with faculty soloists and special performances from the winners of the annual Drake Concerto Competition.
