Nora Stelter, Pharm.D. and assistant professor of pharmacy practice at Drake University, is one of four pharmacy educators in the country to receive the Health and Wellness/Pharmacy Practice Ideation (HWPPI) Award from the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and the Food Marketing Institute (AACP/FMI) Foundation. Stelter received an award of $5,000 to collaborate with Hy-Vee, Inc. on the study of the integration of interprofessional practice and education in a supermarket-based lifestyle modification class.

“Interprofessional education and collaboration is critical to enhance the training of our future healthcare professionals and improve teamwork to ultimately benefit patient care,” says Stelter. “We are very excited to be partnering with Hy-Vee on this initiative, and continue building what is already a strong relationship with this innovative company.”

The HWPPI Awards provide financial support to pharmacy school faculty members who collaborate with a retail or independent food market to explore a practice model activity involving pharmacy and nutrition. These awards help expand the role of pharmacy in promoting and maintaining health and wellness in today’s evolving healthcare system.

Stelter’s study will aim to identify impressions of pharmacists, dieticians, and students regarding interprofessional collaboration prior to and after the collaborative delivery of a 10-week lifestyle modification class. The $5,000 award will provide the resources needed to study and develop a sustainable, replicable interprofessional education (IPE) model for pharmacists, dieticians, and students.
